Lighthouse - FAQ“A Junior High Ministry that EQUIPS students to CONFIRM their FAITH”
Why is our Jr. High ministry called LightHouse? GraceKids, our ministry for children, birth through 5th grade, is organized into houses by grade level. Our ministry to high school students is called SHINE which models our GRACE values. LightHouse bridges these two very grounded ministries together. What will happen when Trinity is one church meeting at two sites?
Junior high students need experiences that remind them they have peers who believe the same thing they believe. For this reason Trinity will bring all the kids in junior high (6th–8th grades) from both campuses for one ministry experience at one centralized location on Wednesday nights from 7 to 8:15pm. Why doesn’t LightHouse meet on Sunday mornings?
Because Trinity’s vision for all members is to be in worship and a small group, and to use their gifts to serve. Not having LightHouse on Sunday mornings allows for two things:
The Jr. High small group experience will come on Wednesdays when we all gather together for large group and small group, as well as other life - application experiences. In this setting on Wednesdays they will meet other kids from their school, their church, and their community who believe the same things they believe regardless of which site a family chooses to worship at or serve with.
In addition, we envision our student ministry being more “regional” rather than campus specific, again allowing for students from a broader area to come together.
Why are we combining the ministries we offer to 6-8th graders?
We have been looking for a better way to do Jr. High ministry and because it just makes sense! Our ministry to Jr. High students has been fractured and our 6th graders, in the past, have been “left out”. This hasn’t necessarily served our students in the best way. The Wednesday night LightHouse experience will offer opportunities for many of the best components we have used in the past to be streamlined with all of our 6th – 8th graders and their friends. When does LightHouse begin? When will my student join senior high?
There is a noticeable gap between GraceKids and the Confirmation model we have used in the past. LightHouse will begin in the late summer/fall of a student’s 6th grade year. I am interested in LightHouse! What do I do now?
Great! We are super excited for you to be part of our program. Please register, and then download our medical release form, fill it out and bring it with you to our next LightHouse gathering.
